Pattern Library
The Pattern Library is your digital catalog for organizing and reusing quilting patterns. Store pattern details, images, tags, and notes — then quickly find and apply them to new quilts.
Accessing the Library#
Open the Pattern Library from the Pattern field in the New Quilt or Edit Quilt form by clicking the "Pattern Library" button. Patterns are also auto-saved when you type new names in the quilt form.
Browsing Patterns#
Display Modes#
- List View: Compact rows — best for quickly scanning names
- Grid View: Card-based grid with thumbnails — best for visual browsing
- Large Grid View: Expanded cards with full details and larger images
Use the expand button (top-right) to maximize the modal for large collections.
Search & Filters#
- Search: Real-time filtering by name, description, tags, size, or designer
- Tag filter: Multi-select, AND logic (pattern must have all selected tags)
- Size filter: Multi-select, OR logic
- Designer filter: Multi-select, OR logic
- Favorites: Click the star button to show only favorited patterns
Filters can be combined with search for precise results.
Adding Patterns#
Click "Add New Pattern" and fill out:
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Max 50 characters |
| Description | No | Max 500 characters |
| Size | No | Size category (e.g., "6-inch repeat") |
| Designer | No | Designer or company name |
| Tags | No | Custom tags for categorization |
| Image | No | JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP (max 5 MB) |
Using Patterns#
- Use Pattern: Click a pattern, then "Use Pattern" to fill the name into your quilt form
- Start New Quilt: Click "Start New Quilt" from a pattern's detail view to create a quilt with that pattern pre-filled
- Auto-save: New pattern names typed into quilt forms are automatically saved to the library
Favorites#
Click the star icon on any pattern card to mark it as a favorite. Use the star filter button in the toolbar to show only favorites.
Editing & Deleting#
Click any pattern to view details, then use Edit to update fields or replace the image, or Delete to permanently remove it. Deleting a pattern does not affect quilts that already use it.
Tips#
- Tag consistently: Use the same tags across similar patterns (e.g., always "E2E", not mixing "E2E" and "edge-to-edge")
- Add images early for easier visual identification
- Use descriptive names (e.g., "Feather Meander Large" instead of "Pattern 1")
- Upload clear, well-lit photos — JPEG works well for photos, PNG for digital designs
