Quilt Logger

Threads & Batting Inventory

Use Profile → Threads & Batting to manage the materials you use most often. Every plan includes thread and batting catalogs for faster quilt intake and cleaner invoices. Basic and Pro plans also include inventory tracking for on-hand quantities, reorder points, and low-stock alerts.

Catalogs#

Catalog items appear as selectable options when you create or edit quilts. If you type a new thread or batting name directly on a quilt, Quilt Logger saves it as a catalog item so it is available next time.

Threads#

Threads are organized by how they are used:

  • Top thread: The visible quilting thread
  • Bottom thread: Bobbin thread
  • Both: A thread that should appear in both lists

For each thread, you can store a color swatch, name, brand, and weight. Use names that will still make sense later, such as "Glide 40wt White" or "Aurifil 50wt Dove".

Batting#

Batting catalog items include:

  • Name: The batting type or product name
  • Cost per inch: The rate used for quilt and invoice calculations
  • Display unit: How the cost is shown in the picker, such as yards, feet, inches, or meters

Quilt Logger calculates batting cost from the batting length entered on the quilt. Length is always measured in inches for calculations, even when the catalog displays a different unit.

Inventory Tracking#

Inventory tracking is available on Basic and Pro plans. Free plan users can still maintain catalogs and assign materials to quilts, but stock-level controls are locked.

For each inventory item, you can:

  • Set the current on-hand quantity
  • Use + and - controls to make manual stock adjustments
  • Set a Low at reorder point
  • See status badges for In stock, Low, or Out

Threads are tracked in units such as spools or cones. Batting is tracked by yardage.

Important: Saving a quilt does not automatically subtract thread or batting from inventory. Update on-hand quantities manually when you want stock levels to reflect actual usage.

Low-Stock Alerts#

Basic and Pro users can turn on low-stock alerts from the inventory section. When enabled, Quilt Logger can notify you when thread or batting drops below its reorder point.

Alert controls include:

  • Send low-stock alerts: Turns inventory alerts on or off
  • Repeat every: Controls how often repeated alerts can be sent
  • Notification channels: Managed in Settings → Notifications

Inventory alerts can appear in the in-app notification bell and by email, based on your notification preferences.

Using Materials on Quilts#

When you create or edit a quilt, the thread and batting fields search your catalog. You can either select an existing item or type a custom value.

For batting, select the batting item and enter the batting length in inches. Quilt Logger multiplies the item cost by the length and includes the result in the quilt total.

Thread selections are used for project details, analytics, and invoice display. Thread is not billed as its own line item by default.

Invoices#

Invoices can include material details from the quilt record:

  • Batting can be included as a separate priced line item.
  • Thread details can be shown for reference when the invoice option is enabled.
  • Batting can be taxed separately from quilting services and extras if your local rules require it.
